STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Gwenview settings, Animations = None
2. Open a folder with two or more images
3. Click Next (image)

OBSERVED RESULT
a gear picture will flash with the background color

EXPECTED RESULT
no flash between pictures

Proposed changed behavior for Next, with animations off: the old image is held for 0.5 sec before the gear appears. This removes the flash between images, while still letting the user know if the new image is delayed.

Problem no longer present in Kubuntu 22.10.
