HTOP On Idle System w/ 4x CPU, Wayland Session
I too am seeing this issue. I'm running KDE Neon in a QEMU VM and after the framework upgrade from 6.1.5 -> 6.2, the system became unusable if using Wayland as kwin_wayland pegs all 4x of my CPUs at 100% constantly.
System Info (from X11 session, System Settings won't even display a window under Wayland):
Operating System: KDE neon 6.2
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-40-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 4 × 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-12900HK
Memory: 7.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: llvmpipe
Manufacturer: QEMU
Product Name: Standard PC (Q35 + ICH9, 2009)
System Version: pc-q35-7.1

I just realized original report was about different version of kwin, I'll be opening a new bug. This is a fairly old bug report and the code has changed a lot since it was reported. I'm afraid Plasma 5.26.5 is unfortunately no longer eligible for support or maintenance from KDE. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one. Please update to Plasma 5.27.11 (LTS) or 6.2.1 (the latest released version) as soon as your distro offers it to you. If you need support for Plasma 5.26.5, please contact your distro, Debian, who bears the responsibility of providing support for older non-LTS releases. If this issue is still reproducible in either Plasma 5.27.11 or 6.2.1, feel free to re-open this bug report. Thanks for understanding! |
Created attachment 155242 [details] Top on idle system SUMMARY *** I am using the current kde version on Debian Bookworm (Testing). kwin-wayland 4:5.26.5-1 amd64 I am trying wayland and it is faster than x11 (which I had a lot of performance issues on kde). KDE takes several minutes to start on my system, which is wild, since I never possessed a faster system: 24 Cores / 48 Threads, 128 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER. nvidia-driver 525.60.13-1 amd64 I don't have any significant performance issues in other desktops but i prefer kde... I have a multi Monitor setups with 1 4k and 2 FHD Monitors. When i look at my idle system I see a CPU-Usage of 25-55% (on 24 Cores). *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Boot System (Debian Testing) 2. login to wayland - plasma 3. wait minutes till screen is stable 4. start top OBSERVED RESULT EXPECTED RESULT SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
