Description arne anka 2023-01-10 17:43:22 UTC
I usually hibernate my PC every night, and reboot/power off at most once a week.
So, whever I hit CTRl+ALt+DEL I have to manually select "Hibernate" since it is not possible to pre-select it in
System Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Desktop Session -> Default leave option

Of the _five_ options possible on the logout screen only _three_ are actually offered here ("End current session", "Restart computer", "Turn off computer").
I fail to see a valid reason for that and can only assume it's a bug.

Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.101.0
Qt Version: 5.15.7
Kernel Version: 6.1.0-1-amd64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 31,3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU/PCIe/SSE2

The concept of the default leave action has been removed for Plasma 5.27.

So, what is supposed to happen if one hits
CTRL+ALT+DEL
?

If you never customized the setting, Log Out is selected. If you did, the thing you chose before the UI to customize it was removed is selected.

Might make sense to default to Shut Down instead now.

Is there an explanation somewhere why this decision was made?
What I liked most about KDE these last 25 years was how much one can configure.
Removing such a small but useful feature seems not really the sensible thing to do.

I've seen that before but it onbly seems to confirm the status, never explained how it could get so.
And it always refers to a dialog/screen after pressing the power button.
Not when hitting CTRL+ALt+DEL.
Just to be sure: it only means the option selected by default, not that the computer will actually shut down, right?

Probably too late now, but I really don't think this is a good decision.

Oops, I missed that.

Right.
