the real issue with this is if i, for example, need to copy something from an earlier state of a drawing, then paste it at a later stage; the copy operation (which, obviously, changes nothing about the document) adds an undo item, prunes the undo stack, and if you didn't know about this (like i didn't), would destroy all of your progress.

Thank you for the report. I agree with you, so I will set the report to confirmed. The issue is not a regression, it has been present since at least 4.3.0.
