I'm trying to import pictures from my galaxy note 9. Using USB-Cable fails with "connection failed, try again", but wihout crash. The phone is visible as MTP-Device, but connection fails either. 
When connected over kde-connect, i can see the Filesystems on the phone and manually download pictures from /run/user/1000/82178b4676aa987a/primary/DCIM/ works fine!
In digicam i've manually configured import from the same path above. Digicam begins the import an crashes immideately.I am trying to import pictures from my Galaxy Note 9. With USB cable there is an error message "Connection failed, try again" but without crash. The phone is visible as an MTP device, but again the connection fails. 
When connected via kde-connect, I can see the file systems on the phone and manually download images from /run/user/1000/82178b4676aa987a/primary/DCIM/, which works!
In Digicam I manually configured the import from the same path as above. Digicam starts the import and crashes immediately.
Also the import via the IP address of the camera causes digicam to crash immediately.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

I've read your comment and as far, as i remember, i've reported the bug to libgphoto too. I can mitigate this Problem by copying all selected photos to a usb-drive and import them from there with digicam.
