Description frederic.parrenin@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr 2022-11-30 15:54:35 UTC
I have a Debian Bookworm laptop which is connect to an external monitor through a docking station.
It happens sometimes that the desktop/background is all black.
I can see the bottom panel, etc. and it works correctly.
But I don't see the desktop icons or the desktop background: everything is black.
It seems to happen only on the primary screen, not on the secondary.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch Plasma

OBSERVED RESULT
The desktop/background of the primary screen is all black.

EXPECTED RESULT
The destkop should have a background and files on it.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Debian Bookworm with KDE/Wayland
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.100.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6

Does it get fixed if you restart plasmashell with `plamashell --replace` in a terminal window?
Comment 2 frederic.parrenin@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr 2022-12-01 15:02:53 UTC
I had to do the command twice, but yes it fixed the problem.
Thanks for the workaround.
The problem does not always happen.
It seems it happens when I connect to my external 4k screen with my docking station.
