Description Axel Keller 2022-11-15 10:38:18 UTC
SUMMARY
***
Having made a KDEConnect build from GIT source and started the deamon manually with 'kde-prefix/lib64/libexec/kdeconnectd', then starting kdeconnect-indicator or kdeconnect-app from command line causes about 20 times following error-message:

    error activating kdeconnectd: QDBusError("org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown",
"The name org.kde.kdeconnect was not provided by any .service files")

In the folders ~/kdeconnect-kde/build/deamon as well as ~/kdeconnect-kde/kde-prefix/share/dbus-1/services there are .service files: /org.kde.kdeconnect.service that provide the desired name.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Build KDE Connect from source as described in https://community.kde.org/KDEConnect
2. Start kdeconnect-app or kdeconnect-inidicator, pair with a smartphone
3.

Axel, I remember having a conversation with you back when it happened. I believe we figured out a solution. IIRC, it was due to an installation path error. Anyway, please get back if you still have this issue and want to pursue it more.

Meanwhile I discarded kdeconnect totally, sorry, and made my own app
   MyPhoneManager.
