STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Desktop Effects

OBSERVED RESULT
Some itens use a "box" to select, others use a "round shape".

EXPECTED RESULT
I don't thing there should be a difference, at least I couldn't think a reason why there's this difference. Most items use a box, others the round shape.

Hello, I'm not a KDE developper but I just wanted to answer to your question.
Square checkboxes are just here to select or not the desired desktop effect.
Round radio buttons are here to select between a variety of options the only effect that will be active.

Round = Choice
Square = On/Off

Correct, those are different for the aforementioned reasons
