There were some very avantgarde design choices being made over the years. I wonder if it might make sense to throw the entire open-this-or-that paradigm out the window and instead implement a welcome screen like kate and ark have I think that would make sense for this app. However IMO it also makes sense to have a conventional "Open File" menu item+button+keyboard shortcut in addition to a welcome view. An idea I had was to give the Toolbar an "Open" button that opens a menu when clicked, and lets you choose from among "File" "Disc" and "Web stream". Effectively fixed with the welcome screen in the 23.04 release! |
