SUMMARY
***
You can drag and drop a thumbnail to another program (e.g. Paint, VLC, Blender, …). Some programs understand the generated URI from Digikam eg File:///my-dir/my-file.
Some programs however (eg Blender)  need a genuine Windows file path (c:\my-dir\my-file).
Can a setting be provided to choose between a URI or a common Windows path?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Drag & drop a thumbnail into a program such as Microsoft Word or Blender Video Sequence Editor.

OBSERVED RESULT
A URI such as File:///my-dir/my-file

EXPECTED RESULT
A common windows path

Some works have been done before 8.0.0 to improve the clipboard contents while drag and drop under windows

Can you check if this file still valid using last 8.0.0 release ?

Hi Gilles,
I just installed version 8.0 but it seems that image-dropping still doesn't work in Windows 11 for some programs.
As said, it is possible to drag-and-drop a picture from digikam into for example Paint or Gimp.
But, dropping an image into for example Blender (Video Editor) or Microsoft PowerPoint seems to have no effect.

I suspect that some programs expect a full image in the mime data. When dragging a single file, we can also add the image, encoded in JPG.

Hi,

The digiKam 8.7.0 pre-release for Windows have been rebuild from scratch today
with many improvements and updates. Please test with this version to see if the problem is reproducible.
