Description empyreal 2022-10-02 19:54:58 UTC
Fresh Kubuntu 22.10 install. When Nouveau driver for NVIDIA graphics card was used, there were no problems with video playback for some time (at least one week everything worked ok), but then VLC black screen happened - no video, but audio only. I didn't figure out cause of this.

Made another fresh Kubuntu 22.10 install, NVIDIA 515 driver install and got black screen instead video immediately (no video - only audio sound), but Kaffeine plays videos without problems – both audio and video tracks.

I figured out that problem is mainly with Xvid MPEG-4 Video (XVID), H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) and DivX MPEG-4 Video (DX50) videos. VLC - default settings. Tried to change acceleration, etc, but no positive result.

Partial solution: When I uncheck Embedded video in VLC Video settings, I get two VLC windows – first is VLC itself and second is video, which is played normally. It spoils usability but at least I can watch videos in VLC now. What kind of issues is this? KDE or VLC?
