Description myndstream 2022-09-05 10:00:08 UTC
SUMMARY
In version 5.20.5-1 in Debian11, HDMI output was not detected when connecting HDMI-ARC to a display when Analog Stereo was selected as output in the pulseaudio advanced settings.

It should detect it automatically even if Analog Stereo is selected as output profile so you have HDMI out in the devices dropdown even before changing it to some digital output.

See: https://askubuntu.com/questions/151870/no-sound-through-hdmi-to-tv

Maybe I'll revisit the bug once Debian 12 is released with a newer version of KDE but it probably still occurs with later versions (see the link above).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have Analog Stereo is selected as output profile in pulseaudio advanced settings
2. Connect new display with a HDMI-ARC cable

OBSERVED RESULT
No audio output on the device and no easily findable option to enable HDMI output.

EXPECTED RESULT
Plug&play audio output on the device. Alternatively, at least an easily findable option to enable HDMI output such as HDMI out showing in the dropdown of Device profiles and maybe a popup notification showing as well.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Debian 11
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.78.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

Thank you for the bug report! However Plasma 5.20.5 is no longer supported by KDE; supported versions are 5.24 and 5.25. Your distro is responsible for providing support for older versions of KDE software.

Please do one of the following:
- Upgrade to a supported version and see if the issue is still relevant
- Report the issue to your distro

- I can only and will upgrade to a much newer version after Debian upgraded to Debian12. Once I did, I will try to check my submitted bugs and update them. See https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/584892/what-would-be-needed-by-debian-to-ship-newer-versions-of-the-kde-desktop-environ/584903

- Done: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1019439 (and only after I did this does it make sense to mark this issue as resolved)

The issue here is that I think this probably still occurs in the latest version in KDE. Have you checked, maybe it's a known problem...it shows up after digital stereo was selected in these profile options but you first have to select that and after doing so I don't know if I can recreate the bug.
