Description starwarfan14 2022-08-15 23:39:02 UTC
SUMMARY
***
When using the brush tool, it ceases to function in any capacity after a set amount of time of using it between using other tools. Trying to change brush color, change layers or even try to use alternate tools such as the shape tool produces no result. It forces the user to stop whatever they are doing and close the program completely in order to solve the issue but this is only a temporary solution as the issue repeats itself. The time in which it takes for this issue to happen is undetermined as it sometimes happens within the first 20 minutes or could work fine for hours without signs and then suddenly stop working.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

unknown

OBSERVED RESULT

Brush tool ceases functionality after a set amount of time that seems to be randomized each time that the program is closed and rebooted up.

EXPECTED RESULT

n/a

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows 10

Sorry, we don't provide bug fixes for a version of Krita that's that old. We're releasing 5.1.0 this week...

Then you should update? If you're on Windows, you only get automatic updates if you have bought Krita in the Windows Store, on Steam or in the Epic Store.

Woulda been nice if there had been a warning about that change.

That never changed? Krita on Windows never autoupdated except when you got it through a store.

I got krita straight from the site. not from some store or steam. the 4.0
series auto updated every time a new version was released. apparently this
is not so with the 5.0 version and there was no notification that this
would change for any version taken straight from the krita website itself.
not specifically your department's oversite since you handle bug issues,
but an oversight nonetheless. don't worry about it, not really your problem
anyway. you guys in the bug department were not the ones responsible for
dropping the ball.

No, 4.0 never autoupdated. Which is pretty clear, because the 4.x series went all the way to 4.8 and you stuck with 4.2

Btw, we don't have departments, and I've been the Krita maintainer since 2004 :-)

There are currently about nine people sponsored to work on Krita, apart from the volunteer developers.

In Krita 5, there is a notification in the welcome screen that tells about new versions and there is a news widget right below that, that, when enabled, shows you the release announcements.
