If you want help, you really need to provide more information.  However, it sounds like you have two separate issues.
First - what do you mean by "archived?"  Whether or not closed accounts are shown or hidden in most displays, including the Home View, depends on some settings you can change.  If you select the View menu, what is that status of the "Show all accounts" setting?  Does unchecking it produce the display you expect?
Second - which drop down lists?  If none of them are displaying at all, I would think of an installation or configuration problem, rather than a problem within KMyMoney.  Can you provide a screen shot of a "missing" dropdown just so we are sure what is happening.  Do you have a similar problem in any other program, particularly another KDE program?
I don't know if it matters, but what Desktop Environment are you running?  Gnome?  Plasma?  Something else?
