Description Alexander Momchilov 2022-08-01 18:38:46 UTC
SUMMARY

The disk image and its enclosed application bundle use jargon names.

Can I rename them to match end-user expectations?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download any build from https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/MacOS/job/kdeconnect-kde_Release_macos/ or https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/MacOS/job/kdeconnect-kde_Nightly_macos/ on a Mac
2. Mount it
3. Observe the app bundle's name within

OBSERVED RESULT

Developer-focused names are used, e.g.
- The disk image has a a name like "kdeconnect-kde-22.04.3-1022-macos-64-clang.dmg"
- The enclosed app bundle is named "kdeconnect-indicator.app"

EXPECTED RESULT

A human readable name like "KDE Connect 22.04.3-1022.dmg" and "KDE Connect.app".

(The fact that it's a DMG already implies "macos", and there's only a "clang" build, thus, both of these are unnecessary in the DMG name)

The maintenance of the old macOS version (Qt) is by [Inoki](https://invent.kde.org/wxiao). For the new version (Swift) I have set the display name to "KDE Connect" to solve the discrepancy you have mentioned, which users might see at the next release (0.0.2).

Oh that's excellent. I didn't know there would be a native Swift rewrite. Is there a CI pipeline for that already? I couldn't find one in https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/MacOS/

No, there is no CI pipeline at binary-factory.kde.org. Its repo is at https://invent.kde.org/ruixuantu/kdeconnect-mac, and you could install it through compiling by yourself or from TestFlight with this link https://testflight.apple.com/join/vxCluwBF.

The testflight URL is no longer valid. Can you please share a new link?

https://testflight.apple.com/join/vxCluwBF

This link is still valid. What error are you seeing?

It is working now, thanks! Last time I tried it did not work. I forgot the exact error message but it showed something like "the invitation is no longer valid."
