Description Sandra 2022-07-26 09:45:12 UTC
Hi!

I am experiencing an extreme slow startup, and I would like to know if this is normal or if there is something I can do to prevent this.

The startup clocks pretty consistently at about 2 min.
I have tried reinstall and start up several times after reinstall, but it stays at 2 min. The startup loading screen holds still at "adding resource types" for about 1.50 min.

I appreciate any advice regarding this. I use windows 10. Let me know if there is any other info regarding my software you would need.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Sandra Bodinger

Uninstalling and reinstalling will not help. Check whether it helps to reset Krita's settings:

https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html#resetting-krita-configuration

You should also check using Task Manager whether there is something else running on your system that takes a lot of CPU.

Please also attach the output from help->Krita Log for Bug Reports and help->System Information for bug reports to this report.

Thanks for your answer, the reset of the settings did not help I'm afraid,
and there is nothing running in task manager that takes up any significant
amount of CPU. The computer runs smoothly otherwise.

I attached the log to this email. I hope you are able to find any answers
there.

/Sandra

Thanks for your comment!

Automatically switching the status of this bug to REPORTED so that the KDE team
knows that the bug is ready to get confirmed.

In the future you may also do this yourself when providing needed information.

Hello!

Adding a comment and a log since I'm experiencing the same bug, in the hope to help someway!

I'm also using Windows 10 and this problem manifested itself a couple of days after I updated to 5.1, but not immediately after the update.
Looking at my logs, Krita created a new database on Aug 18, and the slow start bug started happening from the next time I loaded Krita, the day after.
Forcing it to create a new database today still resulted in slow loading times.

No process is excessively using CPU or other resources during startup, especially Krita: after launching it, while it displays "adding resource types" in the loading screen, it spends 4 minutes employing pretty much no computer resources, then it starts using CPU and RAM and loads up quickly once it gets over whatever obstacle it finds.
Reinstalling, deleting resources and cache and resetting didn't change anything.

Thank you so much for all the work you do!

Zoe

Hello again!

A little piece of news on the bug.
I've stumbled upon this thread: https://krita-artists.org/t/kirta-boot-up-time-increased/45947/45 which discusses this bug having to do with wi-fi. I don't have wi-fi enabled, but unplugging my ethernet cable fixes the slow startup problem for me. It appears a fix is already underway. :)
Perhaps Sandra could try to temporarily disable internet and see whether it's the same bug for her too?

Thanks!

Hi Zoe!

Thx for the advice, I tried the ethernet cable unplugged, but still 2 min startup. I do not have wifi on my PC aswell.

The WiFi (or perhaps more accurately, network access) bug was introduced in 5.1.0, and this bug report is for 5.0.6, so it's something different.
Judging by these lines in the log:
11 Aug 2022 19:18:19 +0200: Database is up to date. Version: 0.0.16, created by Krita 5.0.6, at lör jul 9 12:10:05 2022
11 Aug 2022 19:20:12 +0200: Non-store package - creating updater
Mostly likely the slowdown is occuring while Krita registers resources.
There's an MR in the works that may speed things up here: https://invent.kde.org/graphics/krita/-/merge_requests/1555
Comment 9 tomtomtomreportingin 2022-08-27 05:48:40 UTC
Should be fixed with https://invent.kde.org/graphics/krita/-/merge_requests/1550
The issue should be resolved in Krita Plus builds.
