SUMMARY
Today I discovered a bug in which attempting to change a user password in system settings fails as polkit is never brought up to authenticate the change.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open System settings
2. Go to "users"
3. Click on your user account
4. Click on "change password"
5. Enter new password twice
6. Click "set password"

OBSERVED RESULT
"Enter password" dialog goes away. Password is not changed.

EXPECTED RESULT
"Enter password" dialog goes away. Polkit is called to authenticate the password change. Password is changed.

Works for me too. This is going to end up caused by a local misconfiguration or a distro misconfiguring its polkit rules. I would recommend following up with your distro about the issue.
