STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. minimize or close all windows
2. right-click on desktop and choose 'Enter edit mode'
3. 

OBSERVED RESULT
Plasma triggers the 'Show desktop animation' selected in Desktop Effects KCM

EXPECTED RESULT
No animation. 'Show desktop' animation is unnecessary if the desktop is already being shown.

Can reproduce when 'Eye on screen' effect is selected in Desktop Effects KCM.

Currently Plasma triggers the 'Peek at desktop animation' selected in Desktop Effects KCM after the provided steps.

Current steps to reproduce:
1. open Animations KCM
2. open "Peek at desktop" combobox and choose "Eye on screen"
3 apply the change
4. close or minimize all windows
5. right-click on desktop and choose 'Enter edit mode'

Result:
Plasma plays "Eye on screen" animation. The same occurs after leaving the edit mode.
