Or perhaps "Tonen in map", "In map tonen" of "Openen in map" are alternatives too... The English text is "Open Containing Folder", so it is either "Map openen" or "Bevattende map openen", I choose the last one, which is one character longer that the English text. Thank you for your quick reaction Freek. But wouldn't the word "bevattende" be far too formal? I see that you look at the English text and try to keep that a little but in this case I wouldn't choose to use the word "bevattende" because imho it makes kde look weird. I would like to disagree. I think that "bevattende" is appropriate here. It is as formal as "containing" and captures the same meaning. It may be that it is unusual, but that is a matter of consistency. If "containing" is used elsewhere and translated differently, that could be jarring. When I hover over the little folder icon in the music player Elisa it says: In map tonen. To me that is exactly what is supposed to be... (In reply to PK from comment #5) > When I hover over the little folder icon in the music player Elisa it says: > In map tonen. To me that is exactly what is supposed to be... The English text in Elisa is "Show In Folder". I don't know in what environment the message "Open Containing Folder" is used. It could be that the current folder differs from the containing folder, in which case containing is necessary. An alternative could be "Map met dit openen", but does dit point to the right object? One of the difficulties in translating is that one often has to guess what the environment is, in that case it is more safe to translate rather literally. Speaking about consistency by the way... I see no "bevattende" in Elisa. But that wasn't really the problem. The question really is about the length of the text-string and the sacrifice that costs to the area of the image. Do what you think is best. (In reply to PK from comment #7) > Speaking about consistency by the way... I see no "bevattende" in Elisa. But > that wasn't really the problem. > The question really is about the length of the text-string and the sacrifice > that costs to the area of the image. > Do what you think is best. Elisa does not contain "bevattende", because the English text does not contain "Containing" only "Show In Folder". |
Created attachment 148702 [details] the space left for the image is much smaller than it could be due to the string SUMMARY *** Due to the length of the string "de map openen waarin het zich bevindt" there is much space lost where the rendered image could make use of. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Gwenview 2. Choose on left bottom: "Bewerkingen" OBSERVED RESULT There suddenly is less space for the image because the text-string "de map openen waarin het zich bevindt" takes so much space EXPECTED RESULT Image gets priority. Text-string would be shorter. Wouldn't "Open in map" not be a more proportional alternative?
