Works fine here. You probably have selected a blending more that doesn't show any effect for reasons of mathematics.

(Also, a bug report like this is useless. Please read https://docs.krita.org/en/untranslatable_pages/reporting_bugs.html to learn how to make useful bug reports.)

I tested this on both the 5.1.0 nightly build and the current 5.0.6 build.

On 5.1.0 the tool doesn't work, neither on multiply blending mode or normal blending mode.
On 5.0.6 it works as it should.

I tested this by applying the tool in 5.1.0, then uninstalling krita and re-installing 5.0.6, then applying the tool again.
The attached videos are from these instances.

I have now also tested this on a different computer, in another building miles removed from my house.
Also using a different drawing tablet.
The same issue came up (see attachments).

Just providing videos doesn't help. You need to describe the problem you are experiencing in DETAIL. And you need to try with a simple, empty document to start with if you want to claim that "the gradient tool doesn't work".

Note 1: leave reopening bug report to us, the developers.
Note 2: don't mail me personally about your bug reports
Note 3: for support, use krita-artists.org, not bugzilla.

I noticed the gradient thumbnail in your toolbar is blank (next to the pattern thumbnail).
It seems 5.1.0 pre-alpha just doesn't find the gradient you had selected previously.
Please check if the "Foreground to Transparent" gradient is available in the popup list, and if so, select it.

I can't reproduce the issue here either, the tool works as expected for me.
And yes, analyzing a batch of screen recordings is quite time consuming...and still doesn't answer the crucial questions.
