SUMMARY

With a group, hidden or locked layer selected in the layer stack the polygonal selection tool does not work, it lets you start and complete a selection but it disappears after completing it.
It functions normally on paint and mask layers.
None of the other selection tools seems to have this issue.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select a group hidden or locked layer in the layer stack.
2. Make a selection using the polygonal selection too.

OBSERVED RESULT
Selection disappears after completing it.

EXPECTED RESULT
Selection stay.

I can Confirm this for the Apr 18 5.1.0-prealpha (git 4205530a30) appimage on Debian 10, for the Polygonal Selection Tool - Pixel and Vector selections

Other selection tools do not have this problem.
The 4.4.8 appimage does not have this problem.

For locked and invisible layers, there is a warning notice when the polygonal selection is completed.
For a group layer, there is no warning.
