STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  Click on .kdenlive file made (and worked correctly at that time) in 2008
2. Observe message "This is not a valid project file"
3. 

OBSERVED RESULT
Not possible to proceed

EXPECTED RESULT
Open the file or propose to import/transform the project into newer format.

Herman, do you have example files that you can share? And/or information on what version of Kdenlive was used to create the project? I am interested in creating a test suite of old projects to test backward compatibility.

Yes, but what do you need? Just the .kdenlive file or that one with at least one of the refered video files?? Or the whole project???

I think just the .kdenlive file would be enough for me. I can substitute the video clips with some alternative clips.

The project file contains only a link to file: cass1001a.avi
Is this all what this project contains?

Yes, that was one of my first attempts at kdenlive (used kino before), but I'll attach a more complete example.

The project file content looks strange. Do you have a backup file of this project? Project -> Open Backup File

I cann't make a backup as yoou propose, since I cannot open it in kdenlive.
However, I still have a pecestier.kdenlive~ file from the last time I opened that project wit the old version. You want it???
