Please check the attached PNG-file. It looks correct for me and I'm getting the same result with 2.8.2 and with the current nightly builds for 2.9 on Windows for different formats like PNG, PDF and SVG. To make sure we're don't have an issue with the viewer application here, can you please add your export file to this ticket?

Thanks, David. This is really strange... We cannot reproduce it on windows. Do you mind trying out our the last available development version (https://labplot.kde.org/download/)? We're very close to the next release already and are going to announce the beta phase for 2.9 soon. So, it's safe to use.

Dear Alexander,

As I live in Thailand my computer has lots of extra fonts relating to the
Thai language functionality on the PC. It suddenly occurred to me that the
problem might be the font and hence I selected Arial 9, as I know this font
is fully functional on my PC. The result is attached and shows the super
and subscripts correctly. Hence, the bug must relate to the MS Shell font
that is the default in LabPlot.

I will post this on Twitter too just in case anyone else has the same
problem.
All the best,
David

We changed the default font for text labels on all systems to Arial now to avoid this kind of problems in future.
