Hi Arnt Long time no see :-) /dev/ptmx is the terminal device used by konsole to communicate with the=20 shell so it's sort of hard not to write to it. Which distro / kernel are you using? ISTR a /dev/[pt]ty* pair is used for communicating with the shell. /dev/ptmx is used to manage the [pt]ty pair. If I've understood it correctly konsole must write to ptmx on startup but not every ten seconds. > Which distro / kernel are you using? On this laptop: caldera 3.1.
