SUMMARY

Okular takes at least 15 seconds to launch first time (from the menu). Subsequent launchings in the same session are OK, however, taking only 2 seconds. This compares very unfavourably with Xreader, say which takes only 3 secs to launch first time from the menu.

Another issue is the lack of any splash screen, or spinning circle on the screen. This is especially important when you are launching by double-clicking on a pdf file, say, to tell the user that the double-click has worked. On a good few ocasions I have accidentally launched two verions of Okular or else waited for a program launch that didn't happen because of a "mis-click".

There's something wrong in your system, okular defenitely does not take 15 seconds to start.

Wouldn't you by any chance be using a snap version of okular?

Could you re-try that with a current release? Flatpak's are a lot snappier for me than what you report here.
