Clementine vs Elisa screenshot (example)
I have so much more information when using Clementine.
It's not an unreasonable observation. Problems I see with this proposal: - If you don't have the playlist panel open or you're in the narrow window layout mode where the playlist gets automatically collapsed you won't know what's currently playing. The top header is not wasted space in this cases, it's an essential part of the app. Also you don't have enough space to cramp the title/album/artist info at a reasonable font size next to that minuscule album art at the bottom in your proposal if you'd try to suggest that as a solution. - Hamburger menu moved to an unusual place. Most hamburger menus are at the top of the windows, not at the bottom. Breaks consistency with other KDE apps. Most hamburger menus are at the > top of the windows, not at the bottom. Breaks consistency with other KDE > apps. i made one more attachment, about the hamburguer menu and the album info basically: move hamburguer menu to the top of the app, near the "playing now" and then a smaller size for items in the playlist because theres too many information in the screen already. i hope something changes, i would like to use an app with proper integration with the environment, i know many of my linux friends also use alternatives in their KDE setups because of those issues. Left sidebar collapsed without enough space
The left sidebar also gets collapsed in narrow mode. I cannot see how you could fit the current song info there.

everything in the bottom, including song name
What about doing in this way? i know it looks confusing xd, but focus in the bottom panel
i remember that this is a pretty old design from windows media player 10/11 days, and even to this day it feels natural for a desktop media player to look like this, at least for me

QTDesigner example/idea
here, i made something with qtdesigner.
I know that i should contribute with code for this one but i am not a programmer, i don't have the skills so i am sorry, and i expect this issue to not really go anywhere because of that alone, but please take in consideration some of the aspects that i showed you, and maybe we can find a balance! thank you for your time, i love KDE! :) |
Created attachment 145834 [details] Screenshot of my redesign idea in a very and extreme cheap way, is so badly done that it gets funny to look at Elisa has this issue for me that really makes it painful to use, so painful that i avoid it with passion. The problem is that theres so much badly used space in the UI and the media controls are neither in the top of the window or in the bottom, 90% of the music players use media controls in the bottom of the screen because like that you can focus on your playlist/songs/etc I attached a screenshot of how i would like it to look like and also pointing the issue properly since english is not my native language and i'm struggling to explain this with text only. Don't take it as a personal offence or anything like that, trying new stuff is cool and all and i love 99% of the KDE software i use, and i also use plasma, but Elisa is the only thing that forces me to use alternatives that do not integrate well with the KDE/Plasma ecosystem.
