SUMMARY

Things were working fine up until Kdenlive version 20, and then version 21 arrived and it ruined it.  I have been using Kdenlive for the last 4 years and yes, it used to crash a lot, still does but less often, there are always some issues but you can live with them as you can resolve them by reediting the video but now things have gone beyond.

When I open the Kdenlive it shows black spots in-place of icons, the wipe transitions do not work, even transformation on some video tracks do not work.

In the log I see some movit effects. These are not stable. The Jack audio backend could be an issue as well. Please try without movit effects and change the audio backend to sdl2 in the settings. 

If this still leads to issues try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 21.08.3a to see if there are any packaging issues https://download.kde.org/stable/kdenlive/21.08/linux/.

Hey, Thank you for reviewing the issue. 

Actually, I am not using movit (gpu) for anything, I have disabled it as it is horrible and very unstable. 

The problem is regarding the black spots, crashing is a feature of Kdenlive, I can live with that. But the app has spacing issue in the UI, I have read somewhere similar issue with Kdenlive.

Appimage and Flatpaks are as horrible and crashy as the GPU support in Kdenlive. They are no help at all.

As of now, I am just living with these issue, there seems to be no solutions to them. I even don't expect any resolution from Kdenlive dev team. I know it's hard to maintain an open-source project. Just wanted to point the issues. 

I have even tried reinstalling the application, issue is persistent even if I  manually delete all the config files.

Mmh. I would give the AppImage a try as the release AppImage is made by the Developer containing all needed dependencies. The Flatpak should work as well, they are build automated by our build machine and is tested by the Dev as well.

The AppImage is an official distribute from the Kdenlive team and tested. Do you have tested with the current Kdenlive AppImage, this to see if Ubuntu have any packaging issue? https://kdenlive.org/en/download/
