SUMMARY

I have this image here (see attachment), for which digikam does not generate a thumbnail. It is not a matter of size, as it *does* work if I convert it to an even bigger size using imagemagick.
It also works with table view (I can click on the image's table entry and see the big one), just not with preview or thumbnail.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Store this picture in an album watched by digikam (i.e. where other pictures are already visible)

OBSERVED RESULT

A thumbnail of this pix should appear

EXPECTED RESULT

Nothing happens

Well I am sure that if you send aimage it will work here. The Debian digiKam package is out of date, in between there are hundreds of fixed bugs in the last stable digiKam-7.3.0. Also, is the Debian package a snap image, like Ubuntu's? Snap packages use a sandbox and are unusable. please test it with our AppImage from www.digikam.org.

no snap here, sorry

I tried this, and indeed it worked.

But now the surprising part: it still continued working after I then viewed the album with my normal Debian digikam, and even after I renamed my picture, and then moved it to another album. Weird. Unfortunately, this is the only image of this kind that I have around, so I've got no further opportunity to test :-(

Remember that the AppImage has now created a thumbnail in the DB. Therefore your Debian version now also shows a thumbnail. Renaming is not enough, as the thumbnails are found in the DB with a hash. You would have to delete the thumbnail DB as a test.

Since the problem with the AppImage could be fixed, I close the bug. If the problem occurs again, reopen the bug.
