This feature is still unimplemented in KDE CVS 2003-08-20. Anyone :-) Bug is still present in KDE-3.5.5. Noone knows what the size of a folder is supposed to mean in Konqueror, at least I don't after 25 years of using computers. This bug is still present in 3.5.6. Detailed list view shows that directories have a 4 kb size, which is clearly crap. Clicking on Properties shows that the same directory is 1 GB big! BTW: dolphin 0.8.2 does not show a false directory size, it shows a dash for directories. Moritz, the 4kb is not crap, that is the size of the directory. Remember, in Linux everything is a file. So are the directories. Now, what you want to know is the recursive size of everything in the directory. And I agree with you, that is what should be shown. See my comment #2 at Bug #136012. I am changing this to a wish and giving a new summary to better reflect the nature of this bug. This bug requests that the size of directories shown in Konqueror be the recursive size of all files within that directory. Created attachment 30732 [details]

It turns out that Windows reports this information in a mouseover popup. The information comes up instantly, even for very large, very recursive directories. It does not seem to be calculated on the fly, but it works for even newly-created directory trees.
This feature will not be implemented in KDE 3 because is no more developed. It has been requested the same feature for Dolphin in KDE 4: bug #158090. I'm closing this as wontfix. So that we can find this bug if need be, and to show support for the Dolphin bug, I am changing the resolution to duplicate. I justify this by the fact that both bugs are asking for the same feature. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 158090 *** |
