Description Roke Julian Lockhart Beedell 2021-11-03 17:23:19 UTC
SUMMARY
Please have observed "http://github.com/microsoft/winget-pkgs/pull/33718#pullrequestreview-796861130" for explanation of why this is problematic: recursive infinite replacement of software that has been installed by winget.

OBSERVED RESULT
Currently, software that has been compiled at http://binary-factory.kde.org is identified within the Control Panel of Windows after installation as "master-" plus an apparent-random string of characters. This is strange, because this system of versioning rather than usage of the name of the branch that it was compiled from does mean that usage of alternative identificative methodology is being required by managers of packages, such as "winget", which is available at "http://github.com/microsoft/winget".

EXPECTED RESULT
The software should be identified within Control Panel by the name of the branch that it was compiled from, because this would allow consistent identification to occur across all methods of distribution, and across versions: release as Nightly and Release would be identified consistently outside of "http://binary-factory.kde.org".

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: All.

The Jenkins instance at https://binary-factory.kde.org/ doesn't exist anymore, and that might be the worst report I've ever read. I'm glad to retire it.
