SUMMARY
Attempted face recognition on new install. This included even "clean" of the database as an option. In all attempts to either scan or a direct add of a face causes the application crash

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Invoking maintenance FACE search; OR
2. Selecting a picture and attempting to add a face - crashes on submit


OBSERVED RESULT
Application disappears (closes)

The digiKam 7.1.0 version is a bit older. Can you test it with the AppImage from www.digikam.org?
Otherwise we need a debug log or GDB backtrace as described here: 

https://www.digikam.org/contribute/

We also need to know what type of database you are using?

upgraded to the appimage latest version - that appears to have corrected it.

To answer your question regarding 7.1.0, it was using SQLite.
