SUMMARY
Volume/brightness can not be changed when the right-click context menu on the desktop is open

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right click on the desktop/panel
2. Try to change volume/brightness using the keyboard function keys

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens, volume/brightness remains the same.

EXPECTED RESULT
Volume or brightness should increase or decrease when they are supposed to.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Even the microphone mute key doesn't work when the context menu is open. Also, the screen lock (Meta+L or the Fn key) isn't responsive either.

This is not a problem as such, just that all these controls can be really inconsistent about when they work.
