This works fine for me and I do not recall this ever happening during my usage.
Is this still reproducible?

This is unlikely to matter based on the behavior you described. But the Plasma/KWin version (where the runner lives) maters though.
I can't reproduce it exactly right this moment, but it is at least still reopening (just not switching virt desktop), so I expect whatever it is is still a bug (and will probably fully reoccur again someday soon).
