I don't know of a way to "close and hide" categories similar to how accounts can be closed. But I'm also very interested in this feature. I'm not sure that marking a category so it can no longer be used is quite the same as closing an account. Closed accounts (depending on the state of "Show all accounts" do not show up on any dropdown or list. I believe a category marked not to be used should not show up in the dropdown to assign or change the category of a transaction or split, but they should still show up in the Category View and should also be included in any Report, as long as that Category actually contributes any data to the report. An additional possibility might be to also allow categories to be marked as closed, which would hide them completely, as with closed accounts, but this would be separate status from the "Do not use this category." This feature of hiding a category is available on Quicken. I understand that KMyMoney doesn't provide or implement everything that Quicken has. I've attached a link to their page talking about hiding categories for reference. https://help.quicken.com/m/mobile.action#page/3216261 as a temporary work around..... I've changed the "no longer used" categories to start with ZZ_. This way, the ones I do still use will be at the top of the list. |
