Description saunders 2021-07-16 19:39:56 UTC
SUMMARY
sometimes with firefox in the foreground and i focus/restore konsole it will not draw the full konsole window properly. it will look like a box-shaped chunk was cut out of it. i cannot reliably recreate this. somewhat similiar effect when you play a video fullscreen with mpv (also hw accel) on the same desktop, it closes, firefox will momentarily be a black window before it refreshes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. firefox in foreground
2. restore a minimized konsole which overlays part of firefox
3. a box sized chunk will be cut out of konsole, it does not match the position it overlays firefox nor the size.

OBSERVED RESULT
konsole window drawn with square chunk missing.

EXPECTED RESULT
konsole window drawn properly.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.84.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
desktop effects enabled, nvidia gtx 980, firefox hw accel enabled.

if I catch it doing it again I'll take a photo with my phone. it's rare but it has happened recently. it seems to only happen with konsole.

Cannot reproduce with Intel HD620 iGPU. Seems like it could be an NVIDIA issue.
Comment 2 saunders 2021-11-09 01:18:14 UTC
Had this happen again and this time I was able to recreate the secret sauce for having it happen every time.

compositor enabled, nvidia drivers.
open firefox, not maximized.
open konsole, position konsole over firefox. half over it, half over open desktop.
shade the konsole.
minimize konsole to taskbar by clicking on the taskbar entry.
restore konsole from clicking taskbar entry.
konsole not drawn properly.

if you cannot recreate this I can make a video.

Just tried it again with ver 5.27.7-r2 on Gentoo. Can still recreate this bug using the steps listed previously. Nvidia drivers 535.104.05

I know I've written this before, but everything still looks like a driver issue given we have no other reports.

This bug was reported against an outdated version of KWin. We have made many changes since then.
If the issue persists in newer versions can you reopen the bug report updating the version number.
