SUMMARY
After installing Kate on MacOS (Big Sur, 11.4), I am not able to run the program. A warning message appears, saying "kate.app can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information."


STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download newest release from https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/MacOS/job/Kate_Release_macos/
2. Install 
3. Attempt to open

OBSERVED RESULT
Warning message: "kate.app can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information."

Our applications are not notarized.

To start them, you need to add some exception for that, see e.g.

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/373738/how-can-i-install-a-non-notarized-application-that-is-not-in-the-app-store-and-n

or google for non-notarized application startup.

Please try if that works.
We have at the moment no plans to support notarization.

This is literally an upstream issue, IMHO.
