For many people still changing regularly from Windows to Linux it would be very nice to improve mail folder compatibility (i.e. sharing) with Netscape. I have tried to do it but it is quite painful even though sharing the folders is easy since you can make your Windows mail directory visible to Linux and link ~/Mail to it.
More specifically I'd REALLY like the following:
- ignore files ending in .snm (Netscape summary files). I think it is very unlikely that someone will call their folders this way when creating them manually!!
- accept directories named dir.sbd (Netscape directories) to allow using common hierarchical folders. At present it seems kmail's folder need to have a name of the form .dir.directory otherwise they are ignored which I think is not always ideal.
- do not complain saying it is impossible to create already existing Drafts or Trash folders. Currently to start kmail with ~/Mail pointing to the Windows directory where I strore my Netscape mail I need to delete these two folders manually before launching kmail!!

Aprt from that kmail works just fine. Keep up the excellent work!

Right, that bug's been out there for a while... But even though Netscape no longer exists, its mail component does as Thunderbird and I'd still be happy to know whether kmail can work with Thunderbird's files. "Work with" in the sens "interoperate", not import (I think there *is* an import function but then you can no longer work from Thunderbird). That is, being able to use whichever works bestfor the task at hand...

Wouldn't you agree, that for this task it is much better to use an IMAP-mailbox?
