Created attachment 137654 [details]
example showing the "inconvenience" due to this lack.

SUMMARY
By dragging and dropping folders and files to the desktop, they are always placed in the first available slot. It would be nice and convenient for these to be positioned in the position where they are dropped.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select "Folder view" mode for the desktop
2. drag and drop a file by Dolphin to the desktop

OBSERVED RESULT
the file is placed in the first available space

EXPECTED RESULT
the file should be positioned where I drop it with the mouse. I want to place the icons where I prefer, to organize faster and better my works.

This was implemented in Plasma 5.20 IIRC.
