There is a tiny bit of selection to the left of the hand. Select -> Deselect will probably fix your problem.

Moreover if you use the Calligraphy tool, it creates a vector layer for you, which means you cannot paint on it using the Freehand Brush Tool. That's why later in the video you got the warning in the top left part of Krita.
