First use the release candidate of digiKam-7.2.0 from here: https://files.kde.org/digikam/ This version supports MacOS Big Sur. The option for album monitoring in the collection settings must be deactivated under MacOS. Maik Thanks! 7.2 works well with Mac M1 and macOS 11.2.2, as far as I can tell.
