Please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 20.12.2 to see if there are any packaging issues https://download.kde.org/stable/kdenlive/20.12/linux/ I have just tried it out. Unfortunately there were no changes. After a few minutes (or the start of the program's internal video playback) Kdenlive froze again. So I assume you have tested with the AppImage. Please update your Mint to the latest version. (And disable all GPU acceleration because they are not stable.)
