SUMMARY
When you have a transparent panel like Latte and the white icons selected, the loudness icon turns black when you lower the volume or mute it completely.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set a transparent panel
2. Set white icons
3. Lower or mute the volume

OBSERVED RESULT
Icon changes to black

EXPECTED RESULT
It should become transparent like other inactive icons

Are you using a non-default Plasma and/or icon theme?

I do use the Kora theme, but it uses the Breeze icons for the panel. I also tried setting the theme to Breeze. I get the same behavior.

Oh yes and for the Plasma theme I do use Harmony. Haven't checked changing that. Maybe it is related to that theme. Will check later. I am on Windows atm

Yup. :) You'll want to report this to the developer of that theme. Apparently an icon is broken.
