Sentry Crash Report:

Description Christopher Yeleighton 2021-01-14 10:29:56 UTC
SUMMARY
Dolphin handbook is not self-contained; it requires Konqueror handbook to describe how to create a new directory which is a basic functionality of a file manager.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Read the page "The Menubar in Dolphin's Main Window"

OBSERVED RESULT
You will find an explanation of all available objects in Konqueror's handbook in the chapter Create New.

EXPECTED RESULT
That information should be readily available even if Konqueror is not installed.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.10.5-1-default
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.77.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Also, the page title should be "The menu bar in Dolphin’s main window".
Redirected from downstream.

Didn't Dolphin and Konqueror spring from the same root? I remember using Konqueror ca 2002 or 2003. It seems to me Dolphin started life as Konqueror without all thehttp & ftp bells and whistles, around 2010, or o. There was smething called Nautilus along the way, as well. I ws on openSUSE back then. But it was KDE allthe way for me.

The main purpose of Konqueror is WWW. WWW is a wild world, they ignore all rules, especially accessibility and backward compatibility. It has been turned into a money-making machine for a group of reckless entrepreneurs. Konqueror does not accommodate itself to this grifter approach (in their words, we do not keep up with the current technology) so it is excluded from the default KDE desktop. As a result, its documentation is gone too. Including the part that Dolphin depends on.

OK. I'll try to work on it, as time permits. I'm pretty busy with other stuff
right now (I volunteer to help elderly people who don't much like computers
file their income tax returns, and the season is upon us). And I'm in the
middle of rewriting the KMail documentation. But it might not be hard to do,
if I just have to copy some xml code from one index.docbook file and paste it
into another one. And maybe copy some .png files as well. I'll try to get to
it.

This way of reading doesn't match the facts - neither Dolphin nor Konqueror are part of Plasma, they have a different release cycle.
Konqueror has no WWW as it's core: it's mainly a container of KPart objects.

That said, it may make sense to have that documentation in Dolphin, and reference the Dolphin documentation from Konqueror (Konqueror file management depends on a library provided by Dolphin).

But please continue the discussion on the other bug.
