Could be bug 429628, but Dolphin developers need the backtrace of the crash to investigate. Please add it here if you are able to reproduce the issue.

Also is this while using the Wayland session?
Comment 3 kai_lochi 2020-12-28 15:13:18 UTC
I don't use Wayland. I use ArchLinux. Sorry, no backtrace available.

I am running in to this bug too. I am using Fedora 34 (Dolphin 21.04.2) and tested with both Wayland and X11. I will attach my journalctl output that I think may have some useful info.
Thanks,
Dan

journal output of when dolphin and plasma crashed
Comment 8 dan 2021-07-28 15:44:55 UTC
Note, increasing my max number of open files (soft limit) to 12000 made the search run a lot longer before it crashed. I imagine if I kept increasing it at some point the crash wouldn't happen. It's still probably a bug none the less... I'm not sure why that many files would need to be opened at once.

Hi, have you been able to reproduce this on newer version of Dolphin? Please install debug symbols to Dolphin, KIO and KIO-Extras and send a backtrace if it still crashes. Thank you!
