Sentry Crash Report:

Description cleitner 2020-12-24 20:30:49 UTC
SUMMARY
When using trackpad, scrolling down and horizontally left (but no other direction) at the same time (diagonally), the horizontal direction is reversed, making it impossible to pan view down+left diagonally.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a text file with many lines to scroll across, and long lines that go off side of window.
2. Ensure line wrapping is off.
3. Move 2 fingers on trackpad diagonally up and to right.

OBSERVED RESULT
Kate's view of the document moves down+right. Horizontal direction is reversed. Actually scrolling down+right works as expected.

EXPECTED RESULT
Kate's view of the document should scroll down to left, with the text on the screen moving the same direction as fingers on trackpad.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: 20.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The current workaround is to scroll only orthogonal directions in sequence, this is not affected. Only diagonal scrolling down+left doesn't work.

Thanks for the report.

I wonder if this is a bug that has been fixed in newer versions? I cannot reproduce the problem on KDE Neon with Kate compiled from master. I created dummy data with all rows same width...

Can you please test with a newer version?

Thanks for the reply. My package manager says Kate is up to date.
How can I upgrade Kate? Sorry I'm not experienced with KDE development.
Could you provide a newer repo that I can add to my software sources?
Thank you.

There are multiple ways to get a newer Kate.

- Upgrade your Kubuntu to a newer version
- Try one of the ways described at https://kate-editor.org/get-it/

The nightly Appimage might get you the newest version...

Okay, so Version 20.12.1 seems to have fixed this issue. Scolling with a trackpad works perfect. So I'll wait for the next Kubuntu to come out.
I downloaded the 300+ MB app image to test it.

Unfortunately, upon executing the app image, all my application menu shortcuts were deleted, and all pinned applications in the task manager panel were deleted.
:O
It modified something to do with $(qtpaths --paths GenericConfigLocation) which emptied up all my application menus.
