A possibly relevant merge request was started @ https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/671 My merge request was rejected, so I guess this isn't going to happen. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 376258 *** |
Created attachment 134216 [details] The media is paused, the panel icon indicates the "current status", not the "next action" SUMMARY I advanced searched this but didn't find nothing similar. [Disclaimer] I mainly wanted to open a discussion on the status icons showed by the media player applet when playing/pausing some media, as I'm often confused by their purpose. As stated in the title, in my opinion, the media player applet shows the status icons in an inverted fashion, against the default behavior we usually find in all media players, creating confusion. Usually, the Play/Pause icons are used to "indicate the next action the user may want to take". In this case, however, they are used as "this is the actual state of your media player". Which is "fine", but not the most common behavior, which therefore leads the confusion to the user that is accustomed to the most used case. As an example of a use case: I often find myself checking the applet (that shows a "pause" icon) to find if there's some song playing in the background at a low volume/muted that I may be unaware of, finally finding that the song is already paused. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open a media player, play/pause a song, observe the panel icon related to the applet OBSERVED RESULT The Play/Pause icons are swapped wrt common usage: --> When the media is playing, the icon is set to "Play" --> When the media is paused, the icon is set to "Pause" EXPECTED RESULT The Play/Pause icons should be set according to common usage, indicating the next action the user may want to take: --> When the media is playing, the icon is set to "Pause" --> When the media is paused, the icon is set to "Play" SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Manjaro Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.76.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.9.11-3-MANJARO OS Type: 64-bit ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I get that the original wanted behavior was to "show the actual status" but I find this confusing as the panel icons makes me think there's something playing in the background
