Description plasmahh 2002-05-21 19:49:41 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kwintv
Version: 0.8.9 (using KDE 3.0.0 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-4GB
OS/Compiler notes:

I can't tune to any channels with kwintv. I can choose other systems PAL/NTSC/SECAM and I can see that the card chooses them too (because of the "snow" that is displayed) and also selecting composite works but I can't tune to any channel it seems to remain at the same frequency. I have a older WinTV by Hauppauge with a bt848 chipset

02:0d.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt848 TV with DMA push (rev 12)

(Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
(Called from KBugReport dialog. Fields KDE Version manually changed)

That seems to indicate to me that there is a problemw ith the driver. Does
xawtv work?

Sorry folks, kwintv is old code and not being maintained because it's so brittle. We have started a
rewrite, which is quite usable now (though incomplete). You can try your luck with it from
kdenonbeta/kwintv3/, or wait for a real release sometime this year.

Thanks for reporting the bugs. Hopefully you'll have much better luck with the rewrite. The
developers find it to be much better already.
