SUMMARY

The (horizontal) menu items in the Global Menu widget are no longer transparent in the Oxygen Plasma theme as of Plasma 5.20. Other textual widgets however ─ e.g. the digital clock, or the window title applet ─ behave as expected.

I have tried the "Active Window Control" applet and another third-party applet called "Window Appmenu" as alternatives, but "Active Window Control" fails to show a global menu, and "Window Appmenu" only shows it for running applications ─ albeit with correct translucency ─ while newly started applications get their menu inside the application window itself. So neither of these alternatives are viable.

The problem with the lack of transparency of the menu items only exists in the Oxygen Plasma theme ─ it is not present in any of the other Plasma themes I have installed ─ but the bug appeared when I updated my system on 5 November 2020, which included an update from Plasma 5.19.5 to 5.20.2.

To the best of my knowledge, the Oxygen theme itself was not updated this time around, albeit that the Oxygen icon theme was.

P.S.: Forgive me if I posted this in the wrong category or if this report does not meet the required criteria. I am new here and this is my first bug report. Additional observation: the spacing between the menu items in the Global Menu is also off when compared to other Plasma themes.  The items are too close together, and upon clicking a menu item, one can see it moving to the right by a few pixels.

The irony of the above is that people at the Manjaro forum reported similar spacing issues in this widget with the Breeze Plasma theme ─ and with a few other themes ─ in Plasma 5.19.x, while I in turn did NOT have any such issues with the Oxygen Plasma theme in 5.19.x.

Hello and thank you again for the bug report! Unfortunately we were not able to address it yet, nor even manage to reproduce the issue ourselves. Can we ask you to please check if this issue is still happening with Plasma 5.27?

Hi Nate,

Well, I am no longer using the Oxygen Plasma theme at this point.  I have for a few years already been using a different theme — one that works very well — and I am indeed already on Plasma 5.27.8 at the moment, so I guess we can close this one.
