Created attachment 132289 [details]
FHD laptop screen left; 4K monitor right

SUMMARY
Sometimes when I open windows, they appear somewhere in the top left 1920x1080 area, which happens to be offscreen for me.

My monitor layout has my 1920x1080 laptop screen in the bottom left and my 4K monitor (1x scaling) on the right. I have attached a picture of the layout I've set in system settings.

It happens to dialog windows too, not just normal app windows.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Unfortunately, I am not sure how to reproduce this.

OBSERVED RESULT

Windows sometimes appear offscreen

EXPECTED RESULT

Windows should not appear offscreen

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20201007
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.75.0
Qt Version: 5.15.1
Kernel Version: 5.8.4-1-default
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz
Memory: 7.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa DRI Intel® HD Graphics 520

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

One way to deal with this issue as a user is to press Alt+F3 and go to "More Actions -> Move". If you move the cursor down far enough, eventually you will see the window that was hidden offscreen.

X11. I did not test Wayland.

Thank you for the bug report. Unfortunately we were not able to get to it yet. Can we ask you to please check if this is still an issue with Plasma 5.25 or 5.26?

If it is, please change the status to CONFIRMED when replying. If not, or if you can't because you no longer use this setup, you can change the status to RESOLVED WORKSFORME. Thanks a lot!

Reopening this bug as I'm able to consistently reproduce this behaviour. I have two identical monitors (Samsung Syncmaster H9XS317491), one of which is rotated 90 degrees. Almost every new window that appears on the unrotated monitor appears partially offscreen.

I'm running the following:

Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20230308
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 6.2.1-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 630

It would be interesting if wither of you could test on Wayland, either with Plasma 6 or with the Plasma 6 beta release.

I have not experienced this bug for a while, IIRC, but that is probably because I mainly use either the same resultion for both screens (on X11) or the 4K screen is set to 200% (on Wayland). I am currently using Plasma 6 (git master) and have spent most of my time on Wayland. I can try using 100% or 150% scale on my 4K screen with both screens bottom aligned for a while to see if the problem still occurs.
Comment 9 Nate Graham 2023-12-01 17:33:26 UTC
FWIW, I never used fractional scaling and was previously able to experience this with the same config as you, only in reverse: 4x@200% internal screen, FHD@1080p external screen. Can't reproduce it any more, though.
