SUMMARY

Edited geolocation does not show up in EXIF information. 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. I used the editor to write a geolocation, I finished with apply.
2. The geolocation is now properly displayed in digiKam

OBSERVED RESULT

In the EXIF data I see no location information (note: the photo did not have location data before)

The writing of the geolocation information now has a setting in the metadata settings. The writing of the geolocation information, like all other write options, is initially deactivated by default.

Ah ok. Now I got it:

Preferences > Metadata > Enable "Geolocation ..." in "Write this information to the metadata"
